Villa fans welcome injury update but questions remain

Aston Villa fans are cautiously optimistic about the latest team news ahead of this weekend’s Premier League clash with Chelsea.

Villa return to action following the international break on Saturday as they take on the Blues at Stamford Bridge (5.30pm kick-off).

Boss Dean Smith provided an injury update at his pre-match press conference on Friday morning.

Five players who were previously unavailable because of injury or Covid are all back to full fitness.

Forward Ollie Watkins, wingers Bertrand Traore and Leon Bailey and midfielders Jacob Ramsey and John McGinn are available for selection.

Smith will, though, be without Argentine pair Emi Buendia and Emi Martinez, while Carney Chukwuemeka will miss out after collecting an injury while away with England Under-19s.

“We have a very exciting squad to choose from. It will give us different options this season,” Smith said.

“We feel we have recruited really well. It’s not helped Bertrand had an operation, we had a couple of Covid cases and Ollie got injured in pre-season but with the players coming back now it makes us stronger.

“We believe we can challenge the best teams in the league and it’s an opportunity to go and show that.”

Villa fans welcomed the positive news, though still had some questions. Here is what some of them had to say on Twitter…

@SJ_AV81: Chelsea have no idea what they are in for lads.

@HarryUTV: Really happy about everyone being fit but it worries me that there’s nothing about Ezri.

@stumorts: Game on!!!

@samgeorgeody: Don’t like that word ‘should’ if I’m honest.

@villa4ever29: They were my thoughts (too).

@b_davis84: Mings all good too?

@minxnicki: Good news.

@villamadfan: Yes yes.

@avfc_jf: Finally good news.

@LachlanAVFC: Lovely stuff but what about Konsa?

@HugoBarnes9: Where’s Sanson tho?
