The Love Trap viewers accuse producers of ripping off ITV programme

The Love Trap viewers were convinced they had seen the new show before – with viewers commenting it was very similar to an ITV show.

The first episode of the Channel 4 dating show aired on Wednesday (October 20).

In the show, hosted by comedian Joel Dommett, one eligible bachelor — Too Hot To Handle’s David Birtwistle — is searching for his perfect partner in a mansion full of single ladies competing for his affections.

But the unexpected twist is that not all of the women are single, with half of them just in it for the £20,000 cash prize.

The single man will eliminate the contestants one by one each week, dumping them into an actual love trap via a sneaky trap door.

The show was immediately compared to ITV’s Ready To Mingle.

Comedian Katherine Ryan hosted the show, which first aired last month on September 6.

In the show, twelve guys tried to impress one single girl – but only half were single and their girlfriends were trying to help them win the cash prize.

Viewers took to Twitter to comment on the similarities.

FlopsyPickle said: “The Love Trap is basically ITV’s ‘Ready to Mingle’, the only difference is the women are dropped through a trap door when eliminated……Or am I missing something #readytomingle #TheLoveTrap #LoveTrap”

A B B Y agreed: “So The Love Trap is basically another version of Ready To Mingle?”

Mwanyi added: “So The Love Trap is just like Ready to Mingle but a guy is choosing and there’s fewer girls.”

And Elliot Gonzalez wrote: “I’ve already switched The Love Trap off tbh. And I actually enjoyed RTM even though it rated badly. I LOVED MAFS UK though. Too many dating shows!!”
