Scot who suffered horror injuries in Croatian balcony plunge returns to Scotland

A young Scot has returned home from Croatia after plummeting from a balcony and suffering life-threatening injuries two weeks ago while on holiday.

Jennifer Walsh, 22, from Edinburgh, battled a bleed on the brain, a punctured lung, skull fractures, and was placed in an induced coma following the fall on October 2.

Jennifer’s parents flew out to her bedside during the nightmare ordeal and her family launched a fundraiser to pay her medical bills after discovering she didn’t have travel insurance.

Speaking on Saturday, her younger sister Sara took to social media to announce Jennifer had finally been able to return to Scotland where she will continue to receive medical treatment.

Sara said Jennifer has been making slow and steady progress, and was able to reunite with her family this week.

In a message of thanks, she said: “My sister is now back in Scotland.

Jennifer’s injuries included a bleed on the brain and punctured lung.

“I can’t even explain how happy we are to have her back here with us.

“Two weeks ago today I honestly did not know what was going to happen to Jennifer but here we are.

“Jen is able to say a few words, sing along to songs and has even taken a few steps. I’m honestly so proud of her and so proud to be her sister.

“I was able to see her tonight reuniting with her was honestly so amazing and emotional.

“My amazing big sister look how far you’ve came in such little time. You’ve got this and we are all by your side.

“Family honestly means everything to me and I am so happy we have her back in Scotland so we can be by her side.”

In the update, the family thanked the owners of Jennifer’s hotel for their help during her hospital stay.

Sara said: “Also I just want to say how amazing the owners of Apartments Sandito Mlini were to my parents.

“This is where Jennifer was staying, not where the accident happened. As soon as they heard about the accident, they allowed my parents to stay in a room free of charge, took them to the hospital most days and became friends with them. I cannot thank them enough for their generosity, the will remain friends for life with us.

“Thank you everyone again for everything. We as a family all appreciate the kindness so much.”
