PSV were eager to complete Hoever deal as Wolves transfer demands outlined

PSV Eindhoven’s director of football John De Jong has outlined why the Dutch club acted so fast to sign Ki-Jana Hoever whilst also revealing why an option to buy wasn’t inserted.

Hoever, 20, completed a season long loan deal to PSV yesterday as he will temporarily return to his home country where he spent a period of time throughout his development at clubs such as Ajax and AZ.

The defender was signed by Wolverhampton Wanderers in 2020 but has since struggled to make an impact on Bruno Lage’s squad since arriving, therefore leading to a loan move away from the club in pursuit of regular game time ahead of the 2022/23 season.

Speaking to Voetbal Zone via Sports Witness, PSV director of football John De Jong commented on the transfer whilst also revealing why an option to buy was not inserted in the deal. He said: We are renting Ki-Jana because we are convinced of his qualities and find it crucial that he joins us early in the preparations.

“A rental with an option to buy was not negotiable for Wolverhampton at the moment. They paid a hefty transfer fee for Ki-Jana only recently. We did not want to run the risk of weeks of negotiations and therefore acted quickly.”
