Check out our 17/10 Everton vs Aston Villa prediction below
Villa were fully deserving of their point against Manchester United on Saturday evening and although Steven Gerrard’s side haven’t won a game since December 14, they should be heading to Everton in confident mood.
All of a sudden, Villa’s inconsistent attack has a new dimension thanks to Saturday’s match-changer Philippe Coutinho and the Villa boss must be tempted to throw the Brazilian into the starting eleven at Goodison Park.
The layers are firmly on the fence with their prices for this fixture, with Villa (17/10 with Grosvenor Sport) fractionally shorter than the 7/4 hosts. The draw, which has to be a big runner, is 9/4.
Everton head into this fixture with a new man in charge after Duncan Ferguson was given temporary charge following the sacking of Rafa Benitez after last week’s dismal 2-1 defeat at Norwich.
That reversal means that Everton have taken just five points from the last 36 available to them and that disastrous run of form has seen them plummet to 16th position in the Premier League, just six points clear of the drop zone.
‘Big Dunc’ is sure to have full backing from a raucous Goodison faithful, who are also sure to give former Liverpool skipper Steven Gerrard a white-hot welcome, all of which means that this could actually be a tougher afternoon for Villa than many expect.
The hosts will need all the off-field help they can get because their form is wretched. Everton have kept just one clean sheet in their last 14 matches an have conceded at least twice (even against Hull in the FA Cup) in four of their last five games, so Villa are going to get chances in this game.
Everton vs Aston Villa prediction
Admittedly, it’s a small sample size but the early evidence suggests Philippe Coutinho could make a huge difference to Villa’s previously inconsistent offensive unit and he might just be the cog that enables the likes of Ollie Watkins and Danny Ings to kick-on and take their goals tallies into double figures this term.
This is a difficult game to assess given Duncan Ferguson will have his players fired up but if Villa can keep their cool they have a real opportunity to land three crucial points.
Back Gerrard’s side to win the match at 17/10 with Grosvenor Sport.
