Villa spent £95million on new recruits over the summer transfer window, while they also lost influential captain Jack Grealish for a Premier League record transfer fee.
Grealish left Villa for £100million, but sporting director at Villa Park, Johan Lange, negotiated three deals in a bid to replace his influence on the pitch.
Emiliano Buendia was first through the door, as he joined for a club record £35million fee, before Leon Bailey and Danny Ings followed the Argentine to Villa before the start of the new 2021/22 Premier League campaign.
Following a summer window in which Premier League clubs spent a combined £1.04billion, former England international and Villa striker Agbonlahor has named the three clubs he felt had the best transfer window.
“At number one, Chelsea, bringing in Lukaku is the finishing part of the jigsaw, last season’s Champions League winners. Saul Niguez, great midfielder for Atletico Madrid over the years, so for me Chelsea have had the best transfer window,” Agbonlahor told talkSPORT .
“Transfer window number two would be Manchester United. I feel like Man United were crying out for a strong, quick centre-half and that’s what they got in Varane.
“They were crying out for a quick, creative winger, they get Sancho and they were crying out for a goal scorer and they get Ronaldo, so for me, United have had an outstanding window.”
In third place, Agbonlahor listed his former club, Villa, who despite losing Grealish, spent wisely, according to the talkSPORT pundit.
“For me, Aston Villa have had a great window,” Agbonlahor said.
“They lost a world class player in Jack Grealish, but they used that money very wisely. Leon Bailey is an outstanding winger from Leverkusen, Danny Ings is a natural goal scorer and also Buendia got off the mark against Brentford, so for me Aston Villa have had a great window.”
