Aston Villa ace does not ‘intend to renew’ contract amid £30m transfer links

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz ‘doesn’t intend to renew’ his expiring contract at the club as he enters the final year of his deal, according to reports.

Douglas, 24, was signed by Villa upon their promotion back to the Premier League in 2019 and has been heavily linked with an exit from the Midlands club in recent months.

Jose Mourinho is believed to be an admirer of the Brazilian international as rumours regarding a possible transfer to Italian side AS Roma emerged in January and resurfaced in the summer transfer window. Corriere dello Sport via Sports Witness have claimed that Roma ‘continue to follow’ the situation of the 24-year-old. However, Villa have requested €35 million for the player which is ‘considered excessive’ due to his expiring deal.

Despite the rumours suggesting Roma could be priced out of a move, Gazzetta dello Sport via Sports Witness have claimed that Douglas has ‘practically broken up’ with Villa and ‘has already made it known that he doesn’t intend to renew’ his current deal at the club, in a bid to prompt an exit this summer.
