Ally McCoist swaps Euro 2020 gig for Ayrshire non-league clash

Ally McCoist swapped the Euro 2020 commentary box for Beith Juniors’ Bellsdale Park this afternoon as he cheered on hometown team East Kilbride in a pre-season friendly.

Photographer Stephen Kerr snapped the Rangers legend on the terraces with fellow Ibrox icon Archie Knox as the duo soaked up the action in the North Ayrshire sunshine.

And it wasn’t long until others in the crowd spotted the 58-year-old, with McCoist more than happy to take time out to pose for selfies and snaps with star-struck young fans.

McCoist, whose old Gers pal Ian Durrant is East Kilbride assistant manager, watched Lowland League Kilby blow a two-goal lead in the final 11 minutes as Beith roared back to win 3-2.

And Coisty would surely have recognised East Kilbride’s left-back Gregg Wylde who played under him during his tenure as Rangers manager.

These days, McCoist is best known as one of the UK’s most popular co-commentators and football pundits.

His enthusiastic and humorous commentary during Euro 2020 has won him a whole new generation of fans.
