The summer transfer window is well underway, and we are starting to see the top clubs across Europe step up their efforts to spend some cash and refresh their respective squads for the upcoming 2021/22 season.
England captain Harry Kane still dominates the transfer headlines on a daily basis and Manchester City have made their first official bid for the striker worth £100m, with the option for players included.
City are similarly pursuing Jack Grealish – also linked with Chelsea – and a bid is expected, though Aston Villa are fighting hard to keep their star captain and playmaker.
Arsenal are closing in on the signing of Brighton and England defender Ben White in a deal that could be worth more than £50m, meanwhile.
The Gunners have also been linked with re-signing Donyell Malen, though it now appears that Liverpool have opened discussions over the PSV Eindhoven forward, while also being linked with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn and Portugal’s Renato Sanches.
Meanwhile, Manchester United are finally close to reaching an agreement with Borussia Dortmund for Jadon Sancho after submitting a second bid worth £72m, while their centre-back search is narrowing to either Real Madrid star Raphael Varane or Villarreal defender Pau Torres.
Chelsea are considered front runners in the race to sign Sevilla’s Jules Kounde amid rival interest from Spurs and West Ham are on the trail of Fiorentina’s Nikola Milenkovic, while on the manager front Tottenham have held talks with Nuno Espirito Santo and have the likes of Steven Gerrard and Graham Potter also on their radar.
Elsewhere, former Borussia Dortmund boss Lucien Favre has sensationally pulled out of a three-year deal to join Crystal Palace at the 11th hour, wanting a longer break from football.

Mbappe signs new PSG deal (not that one)

Driving up the Kane price for – erm – themselves?
Martial and Van de Beek up for sale?
Manchester United are willing to listen to offers for both Donny van de Beek and Anthony Martial this summer, according to ESPN.
We heard a little earlier on of how United are closing on a deal worth around £72milllion to sign Jadon Sancho, and with Mason Greenwood flourishing and Edinson Cavani having signed a one-year extension, Martial could be surplus to requirements in the attacking positions.
Van de Beek, meanwhile, has endured a bit of a nightmare since arriving at Old Trafford last summer, struggling for both form and playing time.
Kieran Tierney has been talking about his decision to sign a new deal at Arsenal
“I think the vision of the club, and where it wants to go and the expectations of the club, is where I want to be in football, at the top,” said Tierney.
“There is no doubt about it. We are not where we want to be just now, but we are going in the right direction.
“The way the club is run from the inside is amazing. I love everyone. I love all the staff, the players, I love the manager and just working with them is an absolute joy.
“Being happy in life it speaks for a lot and I am happy just now. I was more than happy to think about my future.
“Obviously the love that I had at Celtic, I thought you can’t replicate that anywhere but from day one the Arsenal fans have shown me so much love.
“They have been patient with me through injuries. Times when it has not gone well they have stuck with me, even messages on social media and seeing people on the street.
“It is just brilliant and it gives you confidence. I just can’t wait to get fans back in the stadiums now.
Hammers sign Celtic youngster
West Ham have signed Celtic winger Armstrong Oko-Flex on a free transfer after his deal at Parkhead expired.
The 19-year-old, a former Arsenal academy youngster, made two first team appearances for Celtic last season.
Saliba set to miss Arsenal preseason
Arsenal defender William Saliba is set to miss much of the club’s preseason after being included in the France squad for this summer’s Olympic Games in Tokyo.
The 20-year-old is yet to make a first-team appearance for the Gunners, having spent the second-half of last season on loan at Ligue 1 side Nice.
The centre-back was signed under Unai Emery in the summer of 2019 and immediately loaned back to French club Saint-Etienne, before joining up with his Arsenal teammates last summer, but he was unable to force his way into Mikel Arteta’s immediate plans.
His involvement in Arsenal’s preseason is now set to be limited, with the football tournament at the Games starting on July 21 and the final taking place on August 7.
Arsenal, meanwhile, play their first preseason game on July 13, against Hibernian, and start their Premier League campaign away to Brentford on August 13.
Tierney signs new Arsenal deal
Arsenal defender Kieran Tierney has signed a new long-term contract at the club.
The Scottish international, who arrived at the Emirates from Celtic in 2019 in a move worth around £25million, has put pen to paper on a five-year deal to keep him in north London until 2026.
The left-back has become a key part of Mikel Arteta’s squad, despite niggling injury problems during his time in the Premier League, and has established himself as a leader in the group.
Tierney was part of the Scotland squad that was knocked out in the group stage at Euro 2020, missing the opening defeat against Czech Republic before returning to the side to start both the 0-0 draw with England at Wembley and the 3-1 defeat to Croatia at Hampden Park.
Securing his long-term future is a significant move in what looks likely to be a busy summer for Mikel Arteta, with the club already moving to add defensive reinforcements in the shape of England international Ben White.
The Gunners are in advanced talks with Brighton over the 23-year-old, with a deal worth upto £50million expected to be agreed.
Man United nearing Sancho deal
Manchester United are finally closing in on a deal for Jadon Sancho, according to the latest reports.
United made a second bid for their long-time no1 transfer target to Borussia Dortmund earlier this week believed to be worth around £72m.
According to The Athletic, the deal is still not done but after further progress in talks, it looks like it really is now just a matter of time before a final agreement is reached.
Man City plot £100m Grealish bid as Villa fight to keep star
Here’s the latest on Jack Grealish from Standard Sport’s James Robson and Simon Collings…
Manchester City have set their sights on signing Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish this summer.
Grealish, who is part of England’s squad at Euro 2020, will not come cheap though and is likely to command a fee of £100million.
City are determined to add to their squad this summer after missing out on winning the Champions League last season. Pep Guardiola’s side, who won the Premier League, lost to Chelsea in the Champions League Final in Porto in May.
Guardiola is a big fan of Grealish and wants to sign him, but Aston Villa will fight hard to keep the attacking midfielder.
Villa’s owners are ambitious in their plans for the team and they have already splashed out over £30m to sign Emi Buendia from promoted Norwich this summer.
City are yet to make a formal offer for Grealish, however their interest is genuine and a concrete bid is expected.
Inter eye shock Bellerin deal
Hector Bellerin is a shock target for Inter Milan, according to reports in Italy.
The Serie A champions are braced for the departure of Achraf Hakimi to PSG and are looking for replacements.
Arsenal right-back Bellerin is said to be on their shortlist, with the Spaniard keen for a new challenge this summer.
