Tielemans pushing for Liverpool transfer and deal could be ‘completed quickly’

Youri Tielemans is pushing Leicester City to allow him to complete his dream move to Liverpool this summer.

The 24-year-old is a key target for Jurgen Klopp as he looks to replace Georgino Wijnaldium who left on a free earlier this summer.

That departure leaves a gaping hole in Liverpool’s midfield and Klopp believes Tielemans could be the perfect man to plug it.

He won’t come cheap however, with Mail Sport suggesting the Foxes will hold out for £64million for the Belgian star.

But Belgian outlet Voetbal 24 claim the Reds are willing to meet that valuation, with Tielemans himself pushing for a move.

They add that a transfer could be completed quickly with Tielemans making it clear to all parties that he wishes to move.

Leicester paid Monaco £32m for Tielemans back in 2019, becoming one of the Premier League ’s top midfielders since his arrival.

He capped an impressive 2020/21 season with a man of the match display against Chelsea in the FA Cup final, which included a stunning 30-yard strike.

Liverpool’s pre-season preparations kicked off this week and Klopp has admitted he still has decisions to make on a number of players within his squad in regards to potential departures.

“With a few of the younger ones, maybe we have to think about going out on loan, stuff like this, is it the right moment? There’s no final decision yet,” he told the club’s official website.

How many signings do Liverpool need to make this summer? Let us know in the comments

“There’s a chance to make the right steps in the right direction. They were close to the first team but didn’t play often enough. So, the door is open.

“A lot of midfielders are not here, so come on, take the chance and play the best football you are able to do and then we immediately get options – it’s always like having new signings.

He continued: “If somebody wants to leave, he can come to me and can tell me and then I think about it.

“Nobody came so far, so obviously no rush from the players’ side as well. The market anyway is a really calm one in the moment, I think. There was [Jadon] Sancho and maybe somebody else, OK, Konate we did that early, but it’s a really calm window.

“Let’s see what happens and all of these things, but in the moment, everybody has the chance to impress me and I hope they do.”
