Strictly Come Dancing is finally returning this week and we couldn’t be more excited to welcome Tess Daly and the next batch of celebrities back.
Tess, 52, (real name Helen Elizabeth Daly) has been presenting the show since 2004 and has become a household name through her work on the show but away from the dancefloor she’s also made headlines throughout her career.
Ahead of her return to the BBC One ballroom, these are some of the most memorable things about Tess and her life.
From McDonald’s to Strictly
Although it’s hard to see Tess as anything other than the Strictly Come Dancing star she is, it wasn’t all plain sailing for the star.
Prior to her successful television career, Tess started off as a model after being scouted outside of a McDonald’s restaurant.
By the age of 18, she had her first ever professional modelling job which landed her in Tokyo, Japan.
She continued to tour the world to take part in photoshoots but eventually decided to settle in New York for five years to pursue the endless opportunities there.
It was also during that time she choose to kickstart her television career, ending over a show reel to the producers at Channel 4 for the show The Big Breakfast.
From there she presented smaller shows such as SMTV Live and Back to Reality before landing her biggest gig hosting Strictly.
Tess and Vernon
Tess met her husband Vernon Kay, 47, when he was a presenter on Channel 4’s T4 back in 2001.
They started dating shortly after, and Tess has previously said they shared an instant connection with each other.
Loving Tess supported Vernon during his stint in I’m A Celebrity at the end of 2020 Welsh castle and he spoke fondly of their decades-long romance.
She told Digital Spy in 2013: “It was all quite immediate, really, because we instantly had such a blast together.
“I couldn’t imagine having more fun with anyone else. It was pretty explosive, I tell you.”
In 2017, the couple revealed that their marriage is a “work in progress”.
Tess said in an interview with The Times: “All marriages have their moments. It would be unrealistic to say they don’t.
“Marriage is always a work in progress. Vernon and I are just people at the end of the day.”
