Matt Edmondson is a world class entertainer and pretty much everyone’s favourite radio host.
The talented and likeable 35 year old is known to the nation as one of the many Radio 1’s presenters that know just how to liven our usually dull working days.
This weekend (Saturday, September 11) Matt is set to battle it out on Tipping Point in a bid to win the cash prize for his chosen charity.
For those of you who may not know who is (which may just be a fair few), here’s your round down on the star before he’s set to appear.
Matt began his successful career back in 2004 when he started off small at CBBC as a continuity presenter before covering the Isle of Wight festival for ITV2 in 2008.
Two years on from that, he then worked across the board for the broadcaster the BBC presenting various reports until he landed the very gig he is now famous for.
However, it was during this period of that he faced a devastating tragedy in his life.
At the age of just 22 years old, Matt’s father took his own life.

Recently, the presenter spoke about this period of his life to his colleagues Vic Hope and Katie Thistleton recalling it as ‘an incalculably awful and traumatic experience’.
Matt Edmondson whose memories of his dad’s the death is clear also remembers his behaviour leading up that point.
“He was bipolar – sometimes he would be the most happy, fun, life of the party kind of guy and then other times he’d be hit by dark depression and the thing he did to medicate it was drink. He was an alcoholic,” he said on an episode of Radio 1’s Life Hacks in October 2020.
That was the first time the presenter chose to speak about his father because he had written a song about him late last year were he said he had finally found release from doing so: “It just fell out of me in about 15 minutes and I found the experience so unbelievably cathartic.”
“I was in a room on my own, in tears, but it was also an incredible release” he added.
“I’d never spoken about this because I’d hidden it, I was worried other people would feel pain or I’d bring the vibe down.”
“I also didn’t know if the song was any good but more importantly I’d never spoken about this before. I felt very vulnerable. But the reaction has been unbelievable.”
Tipping Point: Lucky Stars airs this evening (Saturday, September 11) at 5pm on ITV.
