M25 protesters dragged from motorway as police make mass arrests

Protesters were dragged off the M25 by police officers after they held traffic on the motorway.

In their third M25 protest this week, Insulate Britain members have been videoed being dragged off the motorway’s junctions and slip-roads by police officers.

The group, which recently came to prominence, took to sitting on the M25 at junction nine near the Surrey towns of Leatherhead and Lower Ashtead.

Insulate Britain confirmed the protest on its Twitter account this morning, which read: “#InsulateBritain block the #M25 for a third time in a week causing long delays.

“79 citizens have blocked the M25 hours after release because we cannot afford to give up.”

In the video of protesters, a number of people in orange hi-vis tops can be seen on the road while officers from Surrey Police look on.

In one clip a police van pulls up, and around ten officers are shown standing by the group of protesters.

In the footage, a person in a hi-vis top is seen being lifted by officers and dragged away towards a police car.

The last clip shows two officers struggling with another protester as another member of Insulate Britain can be seen sitting behind a metal barrier.

A female protester can also be heard shouting over at the officers: “What you are doing is illegal.”

The man is then pulled backwards by the officers while his heels drag along the ground.

According to Surrey Police, ten arrests were also made at junction one on the M3 this morning and there are reports of more protesters on the M11.

“We were also made aware shortly after 9am of protesters at Junction 1 of the M3. A total of 10 people have been arrested and are no longer on the carriageway.”

Police have removed protesters from the group off the M25 twice this week already with multiple arrests made.

In a post on their Facebook group yesterday Surrey Police wrote: “We are prepared and ready should further activity take place tomorrow following two protests held already on the M25 this week.

“We are urging motorists to check their routes before they travel in case of any disruption.”
