What a week it’s been for England.
The luckiest Londoners currently reside at the pub in a front row seat with a pint in hand.
The most disorganised but committed amongst us are probably still queuing outside the pub they got to at 6 o’clock this morning.
Whether you’re a forward planner or not, you can appreciate the efforts of the highly organised.
But for one loyal football fan, the table he booked weeks in advance ended up losing him his job.
A tweet about the incident went viral earlier this week after the fan’s brother shared a screenshot of how it all went down.
He had apparently decided to be “100% honest” with his boss “rather than trying to make up an excuse”.
He told her: “Unfortunately I won’t be coming in on Sunday as I have a table booked for the final and have had it booked since last Saturday. I’m sorry for any inconvenience caused. Thank you.”
But it seems the 100% honesty may not have been the right way to go in this particular case, as his boss certainly didn’t see the light side of the message.
They replied: “Hey Henry, yeah no worries I will accept this message as a resignation as well. Thank you.”
The tweet received over 4,000 retweets and more than 60,000 likes, and people took to the comments in their thousands to choose sides.
One commenter expressed sympathy, saying: “Once Sunday is done Twitter needs to help find this lad a new job.”
Another questioned the legitimacy of the boss’ decision: “Not even sure that it’s legal to sack someone like that lol I’d appeal.”
As for what happened next, we’ll never know. But one things for sure, as he told his brother via text, the fan will do “anything for England”.
