Mirror Football takes a look at all the latest transfer stories coming out of Old Trafford…
Second De Jong bid expected
In what has quickly become of the biggest transfer saga’s of the summer, Manchester United feel as though they are edging closer to completing a deal for Barcelona’s Frenkie de Jong, and a new and improved bid is expected to be tabled by the Red Devils ‘imminently’, according to the Manchester Evening News.
United made an opening offer of €60million (£51.64m) including add-ons that was rejected by Barca, who are unwilling to suffer a loss on a player they signed for £65m three years ago, and now a second offer is being prepared as Erik ten Hag refuses to back down on his top transfer target.
The La Liga giants are believed to want a guaranteed €75m (£64.55m), with add-ons to ensure De Jong’s overall fee surpasses what they paid Ajax to sign him. However, De Jong himself still has no overriding intentions to depart Catalonia this summer.

United pursuing Feyenoord defender
According to the Dutch outlet Telegraaf, Manchester United are said to be in the race for Feyenoord left back Tyrell Malacia as the Red Devils remain keen on strengthening their full back position, with Malacia seen as an important signing.
The Dutch full back recorded one goal and five assists for the Dutch outfit last season as they finished third in the Eredivisie and reached the UEFA Europa Conference League final, and now his parent club rate him at around the €15m-€20m mark.
However, it is understood that the Red Devils will only make a move for Malacia once they have completed a deal for his compatriot Frenkie de Jong, whom Erik ten Hag has placed as his absolute number one priority this summer.
‘Talks’ held with Bachmann
Manchester United are on the search for more goalkeeper options this summer following Lee Grant’s retirement and Dean Henderson’s proposed move to Nottingham Forest for the 2022/23 season, with only David de Gea and Tom Heaton left in the ranks.
And according to the Daily Mail, United are in talks to sign Watford shot-stopper Daniel Bachmann, although the Hornets are only willing to let him leave on a permanent basis, as per transfer specialist Fabrizio Romano .
Since moving to Vicarage Road in 2017, Bachmann has made just 41 appearances for the club, which included 13 last season as Watford were relegated from the Premier League, and is a current Austria international.
