Ellen DeGeneres, 63, came under fire last year, after numerous allegations of a toxic workplace environment on the set of her hit talk show
Jennifer Aniston has backed her longtime friend Ellen DeGeneres by agreeing to appear on the final season of her hit talk show.
Back in May, the 63-year-old announced she was bringing her long-running show to an end after 19 seasons, after former employees alleged Ellen and her producers had created a “toxic work environment” for her staff.
The star-studded line-up for her 19th and final season will kick off on September 13, with Friends star Jennifer appearing on the first show, alongside Jimmy Kimmel and Tiffany Haddish.
Kim Kardashian will also be one of the guests in the first week, giving Ellen an exclusive interview, and her first since Keeping Up with the Kardashians came to an end after 20 seasons.
Jennifer was Ellen’s first guest on her eponymous talk show – which will feature a fully vaccinated live audience – when it debuted back in 2003, and the actress has also stepped in to serve as host when Ellen has been off.
Hollywood actresses Melissa McCarthy, Julianne Moore, country singer Melissa Etheridge and Sean ‘Diddy’ Combs will also be on the star-studded guest list for Ellen’s final season.
Ellen will take a look back at her memorable guest stars during her 19th season, and will revisit some of the human interest stories she’s featured over the last 18 years.
Following the bombshell report from Buzzfeed News, who first published the toxic workplace allegations, ratings had gone down by almost one million viewers.
But for fans who are sad the show is coming to an end, they’ve still got more than 150 episodes to watch as the 19th season will run until summer next year.
Last September, she addressed the allegations in a lengthy apology aired during the premiere of the show’s 18th season, and profusely apologised for any hurt that had been caused.
“All right, let’s get to it. As you may have heard, this summer there were allegations of a toxic work environment at our show. And then there was an investigation.
“I learned that things happened here that never should have happened. I take that very seriously, and I want to say I am so sorry to the people who were affected.
“I know that I am in a position of privilege and power and I realize that with that comes responsibility, and I take responsibility at what happens at my show,” she explained, noting that they were “starting a new chapter”.
Ellen announced in May she would bring the show to an end in 2022, and admitted that even her wife Portia de Rossi had urged her to quit.
“So, the past 18 years, you have to know have changed my life,“ she said in a pre-recorded video shared on social media, as she revealed she had been pondering the decision to quit “for a while”.
“Nineteen is a great number. The 19th amendment gave women the right to vote, and I believe women should be allowed to vote.
“My instinct told me it’s time. I truly have felt like next season was the right time to end this amazing chapter,” Ellen stated, promising her viewers that every episode of her final season will be a “celebration”.
