Focus is very much on quality over quantity at Stamford Bridge this summer as Thomas Tuchel looks to make a couple of additions to his Champions League winning side..
A striker is still high on the agenda but the Blues’ enquiries have so far bore little fruit as their top three targets appear out of reach.
Tottenham’s Harry Kane is on Manchester City’s radar, Inter Milan’s Romelu Lukaku has ruled out a return, while Borussia Dortmund are confident Erling Haaland is going nowhere this year.
It seems Chelsea have also missed out on their other transfer priority in Inter’s Achraf Hakimi, as Paris Saint-Germain have reportedly agreed a fee worth around €71million (£60.9m), with a deal imminent.
But, naturally, where Chelsea are concerned there are always plenty of transfer rumours doing the rounds.
Here’s your round-up of the latest gossip around Stamford Bridge.
Bellingham set for new contract
Chelsea have been dealt a blow in their hopes of signing Jude Bellingham as the midfielder is in line for a new contract at Borussia Dortmund.
Bellingham was a key player for the German club last season and earned an England call-up to Euro 2020 as a result.
West Ham’s high valuation of Declan Rice has forced Chelsea to consider other options and it was felt Bellingham could be acquired for a smaller fee.
However, The Sun report that the soon to be 18-year-old is now in line for a two-year extension at the Westfalenstadion, effectively ending any chances of him moving on this summer.
Football London report that Chelsea could now switch attentions to Atletico Madrid star Saul Niguez.
AC Milan eye Blues’ duo
Not content with landing Fikayo Tomori on a permanent deal, AC Milan are now preparing another raid on Chelsea as they eye two further additions from Stamford Bridge.
The Rossoneri are said to be in talks over the possibility of signing Olivier Giroud, having already held discussions with the Frenchman’s representatives.
Reports in Italy even claim that a two-year deal has been agreed in principle, with only a transfer fee left to confirm between the clubs.
Now Gazzetta dello Sport report that Milan are also going after midfielder Hakim Ziyech as an ideal replacement for outgoing playmaker Hakan Calhanoglu.
Tuchel welcomes back midfield pair
Returning loanees Ruben Loftus-Cheek and Tiemoue Bakayoko will join up with Chelsea’s squad for pre-season so Tuchel can take a look at them before making a decision on their futures.
The Blues’ boss has already outlined his admiration for Loftus-Cheek, while he is willing to give Bakayoko a chance to prove himself.
Billy Gilmour’s impending loan departure to Norwich has opened up space in Tuchel’s squad and both players can now stake their own claim to be involved next season.
Bakayoko has been attracting interest from Italy, however, and it is thought a decent bid for his services would be accepted by the club, who are keen to get him off the books.
