Currently a size 16, Chantelle Houghton has embarked on a new diet and exercise plan in her bid to reach her ‘ideal’ weight and fit into her size 10-12 wardrobe once again
Chantelle Houghton has revealed that strangers mistaking her for being pregnant motivated her to adopt a new, healthier lifestyle.
The star, who recently announced her split from fiancé Michael Strutt, has confessed that her weight gain caused her to shy away from big occasions and resulted in ‘so many’ people congratulating her on being pregnant.
The former Celebrity Big Brother contestant explained to new! magazine that she is now the heaviest she has ever been after gaining three stone during lockdown.
However, the 38-year-old is now embracing a new, healthy diet – something which is giving her something ‘positive’ to focus on following the break down of her relationship earlier this year.
“I put on three stone during lockdown,” Chantelle told the publication.
“It just crept up and up and I’m now the heaviest I’ve ever been.”
She added: “We started eating a lot of takeaways as it wasn’t always easy going to the supermarket – and being at home I was much less active.”
The mum-of-one, who shares daughter Dolly with ex Alex Reid, then reveals she has begun a healthy eating plan with MuscleFood which “is a positive thing for me to concentrate on.”
The star then goes on to explain that strangers thinking she was expecting a child knocked her confidence and was the ‘turning point’ for her wanting to change her lifestyle.
“The weight mainly went on my tummy, so many people were congratulating me for being pregnant,” Chantelle confessed.
“It did hurt occasionally but whenever I put on weight it always goes on my tummy.”
“One time, I was in a shop buying baggy summer dresses and a lady said: ‘How far are you?’ I just said ‘Yeah’ and changed the subject – I wanted to save us both the embarrassment.”
The TV personality also admits that the comments really affected her confidence and saw her wear “oversized shirts” and baggy dresses.
Chantelle, currently a size 16, aims to slim down to her ‘ideal’ weight of a size 10-12.
Having started her new meal plan, the former glamour model has already begun to notice changes and feels ‘healthier inside’ after eating healthier and exercising more.
Elsewhere in her new interview, Chantelle reflected on her rise to fame after her appearance in Celebrity Big Brother 15 years ago.
Despite the house being filled with stars, a then non-famous Chantelle was tasked with the challenge of taking part in the fourth series of the Channel 4 reality TV show and fooling the celebrities into thinking she was also a well-known figure.
Not only did she succeed in her mission, Chantelle also went on to win the entire series and find love in the house with The Ordinary Boys singer Samuel Preston.
The pair married on 25 August 2006, shortly after leaving the Big Brother house, but announced their split in 2007 after just ten months of marriage.
Discussing her 15 years in the spotlight, Chantelle claimed that “it’s a great industry to work in” and that her only career regret is having a boob job – something she has since had reversed.
