David Beckham is proudest father ever as son Romeo makes pro football debut

David Beckham’s son Romeo has followed in his dad’s footsteps and made his professional debut, and Becks Sr could not be prouder of him.

Romeo, 19, made his professional debut for American team Fort Lauderdale CF – Inter Miami’s reserve team – which is owned by David, over the weekend.

His first outing saw the club draw 2-2 with South Georgia Tormenta as Romeo wore a Beckham 11 shirt on the pitch.

David could not contain his pride at seeing his son following in his own career path, as he shared a clip from the match, adding: ‘@romeobeckham well done big boy, proud of you making your full pro debut.’

Romeo also marked the moment on his own social media page, sharing a series of photos from the game, writing: ‘Blessed to have made my pro debut tonight for @fortlauderdalecf.’

Acknowledging that he has some pretty big shoes to fill, he added: ‘Full focus onto the next match.’

Romeo’s celebrity pals were also quick to congratulate him on his debut, with singer-turned-swimmer Cody Simpson writing: ‘Congrats brother keep it up.’

Dad David also commented: ‘So proud of you mate,’ along with a red heart emoji, while others added that he should change the number on his shirt to ‘7’ to match his pops.

Romeo’s team, Fort Lauderdale CF, was founded almost two years ago as an offshoot to Inter Miami, which is co-owned by David and Jorge and Jose Mas.

The head coach for the team is Phil Neville, whose son Harvey is also on the team alongside Romeo, carrying on the Manchester United legacy.

With parents like these, it’s no wonder Romeo and Harvey have inherited some excellent sporting genes.
