England vs Italy: Euro 2020 final – LIVE!

For the first time since 1966 England are in the final of a major tournament as they face Italy in tonight’s Euro 2020 showpiece at Wembley.

Gareth Southgate’s side have the nation behind them after a terrific run, with their extra-time victory over Denmark on Wednesday night seeing the Three Lions into the final of a European Championship for the first time ever.

The likes of Raheem Sterling and Harry Kane have been among the star players at the tournament, while a solid defence has been breached just once – by Mikkel Damsgaard’s free-kick – in six matches.

Italy are looking to win the Euros for the first time since 1968 and victory would cap a remarkable turnaround in fortunes under Roberto Mancini after the humiliation of failing to qualify for the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

Mancini’s men have impressed throughout the tournament, winning all three of their group games at Rome’s Stadio Olimpico, but needed a penalty shootout to overcome an improving Spain in the semi-final.

England have the players to win it

Frank Lampard is gushing about the options available to England on the BBC…

“Players will win you tournaments and the talent we have and options we have… Raheem Sterling, for example, can go one-v-one and he gives you those moments. We have players who can do that. Gareth Southgate has found that balance too. It’s a mixture of the talent in the dressing room and Gareth balancing it really well.”

England calm and relaxed

Trippier has been speaking to the BBC…

“We’re all calm, we’re all relaxed. We know how big the occasions is but we’re looking forward to the whistle now.

“We want to be focused on the game. It’s going to be difficult. We’re all ready and have prepared well. The fans deserve all this. The support is incredible.

“I’m that type where I’ll always be ready. It’s similar to Germany. Whoever is starting will give 100 per cent. It’s not just about the 11, it’s about the whole squad.

“We need to enjoy the occasion, enjoy the game and give everything when the whistle blows.”
